Mercury-free for more than 35 years

We have practiced mercury-free for over three decades, choosing biocompatible composite materials and following the IAOMT SMART protocol for the safe removal of old amalgam fillings.

Our commitment

A long-standing mercury-free practice

For more than 35 years, Atlanta Dental Wellness has placed only mercury-free, tooth-colored composite fillings. It is part of our broader commitment to biological dentistry and biocompatible care.

SMART protocol

Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique

SMART stands for Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique, a protocol developed by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT). When old amalgam fillings need to be removed, the SMART approach uses a series of protective measures designed to reduce exposure to mercury during the procedure.

The protocol is built to protect three groups at once: the patient, the dental team, and the environment. Because taking out fillings with a high-speed dental bur generates a cloud of fine particles, the SMART approach combines physical methods, a barrier and ventilation techniques to reduce mercury exposure. After removal, we replace amalgam fillings with biocompatible composite materials that match your natural teeth.

  • Protective measures for you during removal
  • Safeguards for our dental team
  • Steps that help protect the environment
  • Biocompatible composite replacements

Why patients choose this

Care for sensitive patients

Many of our patients are sensitive to certain materials or simply prefer a more biological approach to their dentistry. A mercury-free, biocompatible practice gives them a comfortable, respectful place to receive care, with attention to the materials used in their mouths.

Dental ozone therapy

Ozone is a valuable treatment option that helps combat bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi to achieve the best possible health outcome. As an oxidizing agent used therapeutically, it is safe and effective and produces no harmful side effects, and it can reduce bacterial numbers during procedures and lessen dental sensitivity.

Dental ozone is scientifically validated and supported by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT). Treatment is always specific to your individual needs, and we are glad to explain how it may benefit your oral health.
